Answering the “Why haven’t I been accepted?” Question

We are very thankful for BuySellAds.com’s success since the launch.  We owe all of our success to you, the users!

Each site that is submitted during our Private Beta period has been looked over and evaluated carefully. We have had an amazing number of applicants and would like to address those who have not been accepted into the Private Beta program.

In order to make each publishers experience at BSA the *absolute best* possible, we have only accepted sites who meet medium to high standards of traffic, have quality content, a loyal following, and an overall uniqueness about them. We take pride in the sites we offer our advertisers and individually review each site that is submitted.

Some of the common reasons why a site is not accepted into the Private Beta:

  • Inappropriate content: BuySellAds.com runs a strict policy that prohibits ads on adult rated websites. If your site contains pictures or content that is deemed to be inappropriate then your site will not be approved.
  • Incomplete Websites: Websites that are not completed will not be approved. This is to insure that the advertiser achieves the best experience possible.
  • Do Not Meet Traffic Requirements: BuySellAds.com is selective about approval based on website traffic. We examine different aspects of website traffic by using such resources as: Alexa Rank, Compete.com Stats, Page Rank, Del.ico.us bookmarks, Technorati Rank, Yahoo! Inbound Links, RSS Subscribers, Twitter followers, and publisher history (i.e. if they have other successful sites).
  • Did not include site in registration form: Did you forgot to tell us which site(s) you are looking to sell ads on?  If so, your application may have been overlooked.  If this is the case, feel free to email us with the info in the last paragraph of this post.

It is important for us to maintain a high level of quality throughout the network for two main reasons:

  1. We’re not going to accept and/or promote sites we don’t believe are going to produce results for our loyal advertisers.
  2. We must maintain the high quality of our network for the existing publishers so that we do not dilute the perceived quality of the network overall.

Not only are we protecting the network as a whole, we are looking to protect individual users from having a bad experience with BuySellAds.com.    If you sign up for BSA, install the ad code, and then don’t sell any ads month after month we consider this a bad experience and we don’t want people to have this kind of experience with our site.  For this reason we may deny your application for now.

We thank each and every person who has expressed interest in being part of the network. If you have been denied please feel free to reapply later if you have increased traffic, quality content, and more.

If you ever want to check on the status of your approval feel free to email us.  Be sure to include: 1. The email address you registered with, and 2. The website you are looking to sell ads on.

  1. Hello,

What about non-English sites, do you approve them or not?

    Reply
    • Not typically, and the reason is that we are only able to provide support in English right now ;) However, there are a few sites in the network that have gotten through and are non-English. If you would like us to take a look at your site, please email us with the info mentioned above.

      • I don’t think that the support issue is a problem. I run a few sites in Greek but my native language is English. Support shouldn’t be the reason to not allow “foreign language” sites to benefit from your services.

so, what are those requirements for non-english blog/website to be approved then? i really want to use buysellads when my traffic has increased greatly later on. But my blog is non-english.

  3. If a site had only recently launched, and thus had only limited traffic – would you take into account the potential shown by the content / idea / design in order to sign up the owner before he goes to an alternate ad provider?

    Thanks

    • Of course. We’d take a look at the posts, see how long the site has been live and what kind of traction it has gotten thus far, etc. and try to make a good judgment based on what we can see.

  4. Not important but I thought that I’d point out that you mistyped the url slug. You’ve replaced the word “why” with “what”. :)

  5. Okay, I understand now. My blog is relatively new [well, the reup anyway] so I’ll try again in a couple months.

  6. Dang I think I may have got the ‘inappropriate content’ as well as ‘site traffic’. I should probably try again though.

  7. How to resubmit a site? The login page is not accepting my username as my application was not accepted and when I try to register afresh it says userid already exists. ???

  8. What about Page Rank? Will you consider page rank of the blog/website?

But I don’t have Page Rank in my blog http://www.sarugu.com. But my traffic increasing than the past 2 months.

  9. It would be useful if you could supply some numbers, Tom.

A straight average of your headline numbers is 200-250k page impressions. That suggests that you are looking for sites with perhaps 100k+ page impressions. Is that about right?

For the record, I’m still waiting with these numbers for the above. Some of these (e.g., Technorati, Alexa) are not really traffic measures, but…

Alexa Rank – Around 110k, but imo the stat is meaningless.
Compete.com – around 70-150k depending on the month.
    Page Rank – 5
    Del.ico.us – No idea
Technorati Rank – 9k when I last checked, but the service stopped looking some time ago and I’m not really interested as it’s easy to game.
Yahoo! Inbound Links – 99032 5 minutes ago (Goog about 3k)
RSS Subscribers – No idea as we run category feeds.
    Twitter followers – 150-200
Publisher history – no one asked.
Page impressions: Roughly 50k a month measured by Goog.
Wikio: Top 25 UK blogs usually.

We’ll hit the 100k in a few months, but some more guidance would be useful – and you might cut down your evaluation workload.

    Rgds

  19. It doesn’t appear as though you have greater than 100K impressions per month.
    >>some sites on BSA have 4 Imperssions a/d…

Your site is not focused on the freelance / web design / web development vertical (we do accept sites in other verticals, but have stricter approval requirements – i.e. more traffic).
    >>It’s a German Devblog about Usability Design, javascript, Webdesign, CSS, Ruby on Rails and stuff…

Sketchy site – sorry, no porn and nothing sketchy or illegal
    >>Please, what? Not enough posts? Not enough color?

      • I ve seen sites have a lot less rank had been accepted. alexa 3,000,000 sth like that, and other data was not available. Of course they had not made any money by the time I visited. Do you think you are being fair to everyone?

  21. I manage a hub of sites as a publishing network, the ad spot is in the same spot across all the sites. Would I have to register all the sites? or can I just make note of this in the details?

  22. Hi Matthew,
I submitted my blog some days ago, to tell the truth I was waiting to be accepted.
My blog is hosted in blogspot, does this is important?
If you check my Alexa link, you will see that my site is growing fast, just in week my site goes from 505,310 to 71,089 to 39,596 this is incredible, don’t you, I think that will stay constantly at 60.000.
Matther I know how to make a blog to success, and I know what advertisers are looking for, also I made this blog just for Buysellads.com, I’m waiting for a answer from you, let me say that is honor for me to be in Buysellads.

I have my own domain, with daily 4500 unique visitors, 10000 pageviews, 104000- 3 month alexa rank, 69000- 1 month alexa rank. no-adult contents, very much targeted on gadgets and mobile news, with highly unique content. More than 75% traffic from search engines. I find no reason why you rejected my site

  31. Where do we find out the requirements to get approval on the homepage? I’m not talking about this out-dated blog post information. It seems it would help people wasting there time submitting a website if you actually listed the requirements out in the open.
