If BuySellAds Built An Open API, What Would You Build On It?

Internally, we have been discussing some ideas around a BuySellAds API. Personally, I think it’s a good idea – and I’m sure some people would call it a “no-brainer” and say do it. As with anything useful, it’s always easier said than done. We’re not at a shortage of good ideas and have at least two dozen others brewing about.

Like any normal business, before we commit to projects we like to dig a little deeper. Estimating their potential impact on user happiness, retention, the bottom line, etc. help us prioritize.

So, I thought I would give BSA users & spectators a chance to chime in on what they would like to see built on top of a BSA API. What products or services would you like to see built on top of a BSA API? What would you use it for? I suspect we’ll get plenty of “BSA iPhone App” answers, which is fine, but I’m curious to see if there are some outside-of-the-box uses out there that will surprise us and push us over the edge on this project.     As long as the API has methods to check the account balance, initiate cashouts, and view/approve ads, I’m good. So, yeah, iPhone app targeted at publishers… :)

    I would use the API to present current advertisers, and prices and availability for spots on the website.

    I’d use the API to create an order for a bank of ads, such as alphabetical order, so they could be used for a directory-style feature.

    It would be cool to analyse the topics and stats of current well performing ad placements then automatically identify similar sites, trial them based on a budget, then send daily reports.

    You could also do some cool ad testing where banners are automatically created and tested with key copy found from a sales page etc.

    Im using BSA to buy ads. As soon as you guys release the API I will be interested to build an app some additional functionality in order to better analize the data.
    We definetely have a few functions which are missing but would be very helpful.
