Looks like TechCrunch invented the 125 x 125

My first thought was, “what, Al Gore?”. After doing a little research, I can’t seem to find anyone else laying claim to inventing the infamous 125 x 125. So, the crown goes to Nik Cubrilovic who was with TechCrunch at the time. Via Uncrunched:

It will be interesting to see how long the 125 x 125 hangs around. Whenever I see an 88 x 31, I immediately assume the website has not been updated in about 10 years. The 125 x 125 still has plenty of time left, but it’s definitely becoming less and less “preferred” by advertisers.

    “invented” huh?
An invention is a unique or novel device, method, composition, process or discovery. if anything its a cultural invention, which is an innovative set of useful social behaviors adopted by people and passed on to others. Whenever I see an 88 x 31, I immediately assume the website has not been updated in about 10 years. but to be fair when people see blogs like this many people feel the same. even this leave a reply has been around for 10years everyone using other services now. name email url. that’s old school.

    I say 150 x 150, and I’m a freaking inovator. Be serious.

Sure you can say it, but can you say that you were the first to actually USE it and then have it adopted by thousands of other websites selling advertising in the same way? They made it a standard before IAB made it a standard.
