By ToddThe nice folks over at AppStack put on a basketball tournament for companies at South by Southwest. We put together a team, and were excited to participate alongside some longtime BSA friends and users from Harvest, Sifter, Crosswalk, Litmus, and VaynerMedia. Also participating were folks from ESPN, LaunchRock, Aviary (the champions!), Loku, Twilio, Cardinal Blue, Citrix, Crowdbooster, and Pepsi.
We faced off against a tough team from Harvest in the 1st round and barely pulled through. Danny and his team were much faster than us, but we hit our shots down the stretch and were able to squeak out a win. The next round was against Sifter. They were a tall group, and I wasn’t sure that we’d be able to pull off a win, but we somehow rallied again in the last few minutes hitting a bunch of shots to pull off a win. It came down to the last play that Garrett almost nailed from about 12 feet. Another inch and we would have been toast. The next matchup for us was AJV and his team from VaynerMedia. The first play, one of his guys dunked on us… so, we knew it was going to be a battle. This game was a little weird as well, in that we somehow managed to get fouled on a 3-pointer while there were only a few seconds left on the clock. We were also down by 2. We hit both free-throws to send the game into overtime. We won the coin toss, got fouled, and hit the foul shot to win. An odd ending to a tough matchup.
The next matchup for us was Citrix. They seemed to be hot all day, but just didn’t hit their shots against us. Luckily, we did, and we beat Citrix to make it to the finals. We squared off against Aviary in the finals, and I think it’s safe to say we were out of steam by that point. They rolled over us, and took the crown at the first annual SXSW Basketball Tournament.
Of course, if you didn’t go to SXSW you’re probably tired of hearing about anything related to SXSW, but I wanted to post a few of the pictures that were taken by the folks at AppStack below.
